How I Work

SEO’s and Internet Marketers work in many different ways. You will also find that a freelance SEO works quite differently to an agency. Whether you choose a freelancer or an agency to provide your Internet marketing will often come down to budget. Since a freelance SEO doesn’t have the overheads that an agency does our rates tend to be lower. Freelance SEO’s more often than not have an agency background too and have a vast amount of experience managing campaigns for a variety of industries, me included.

Largely, I will work with you according to how you prefer to do things. I’m fairly adaptable and can work to an agreed strategy that suits you. This doesn’t mean I expect you to tell me exactly what you want, many small businesses just know they need ‘some marketing’. I will advise to the best of my ability and we will then implement a strategy together. If this sounds good so far, read on:

  1. I don’t hold clients to long term contracts – you are free to come and go as you please (as long as you give me some notice)
  2. I usually work on a monthly provision basis and adapt the strategy as we go along. I don’t just set everything up and leave it to run it’s course. Monthly provision can include a great many things that I will implement according to what I feel is necessary and sometimes in response to changes we are observing. This can include onsite changes, new content, link building, article dissemination as well a great many other things.
  3. I also do one offs – If you just want an audit and recommendations that you can apply yourself, that’s fine. If you just want some pages building, a month of link building, regular blog posting or other content provision, that’s fine too.
  4. I can work as a consultant (advisory capacity) or I can do hands on, or both. It all depends on what you want and what I am able to gain access to.
  5. I charge an upfront set up fee – this covers any initial research, site audits and competitor research which takes up considerable time.
  6. For monthly provision I charge for time, not actions. And you are free to use my time as you wish. Some of my clients ask me to help out with things that are not part of the original agreement and I will always acommodate where I can.
  7. I can get involved with a number of marketing activities that could be beneficial to your business that aren’t necessarily of SEO benefit. Some of my clients have seen great results from having a facebook page and twitter account. Social media is not going to work for everyone though and I won’t advise it if I don’t think it would be of value.
  8. I prefer not to take on clients that already have an agreement with another SEO provider. If you are already using someone and want me to ‘help out’ I cannot take responsibility for what other providers are doing with your website.
  9. You need to be prepared to share your information with me. I want to know how many websites you have, how many domains you have and I would like to know of any changes you see that I cannot monitor using the usual analytics tools. It helps you to help me monitor ANY changes observed throughout our working relationship.
  10. I am keen to educate the clients I work with to help themselves. If you want to hand over everything to me that’s fine, but there are always things you can do to contribute.
  11. If you want an SEO that will tell you what you want to hear and hold back on negative truths then you shouldn’t choose me. I don’t hold back on telling you if something isn’t working, I don’t edit monthly reports to make everything look better than it is, I will tell you if I see that you are doing something that is hindering the campaign and I won’t agree with your ‘idea’ if I think it won’t work. But I do try and put all this across in a nice and constructive way :)

If you would like to know more, then get in touch, I would love to have a chat with you.
