What do you mean I have to provide the website content?

A new business website is often simply the design and structure and not the actual copy (text content) which needs to be provided by the business owner.

I’ve got a business blog. What now?

You were asked if you had a business blog. They said it was good for SEO. So you start to look into it and someone else tells you a blog is like an online diary. Women share recipes, Alan Titchmarsh writes about gardening, journalists write news stories, fashion writers talk about what Kate Middleton is wearing and Internet marketers write about Google. Scared and confused you start thinking what the heck you would find to write about.

Telegraph Vs Smithy the Twittering Police Dog

I read a news story this morning on Telegraph.co.uk slamming a Twitter account that was set up by West Midlands police.  Why the criticism? Because the account is ‘run’ by a dog.

The Telegraph says:

Is Twitter ONLY a social tool?

There are lots of posts around telling you how you should be using Twitter and I don’t think many would disagree if I said Twitter was a social tool used by individuals and businesses to engage with friends, peers, customers and potential customers.

Don’t be held to Ransom over your UK Domain name

ransom-noteOver the years I’ve heard from many business owners of their bad experiences online. From being sold a website that never happens (or isn’t what they expected) to being scared into buying multiple domain names that they don’t need. Another common horror story is when you request your registration company transfers your domain to another provider and you are informed you must pay quite a few £s for it to be released. Sound familiar?

Speedy Proposal Generation

I was recently shown a new online proposal generation tool and asked to give me comments (I am not being paid for this post).

Yet another new blog theme

When I first set up my website/blog it was after a long time of people asking me if I had one and telling me that I should have one.

“But you’re in the Internet business. You should have a website”.

And they were right!

I was swayed by the green.

Ruminations

In my career I’ve worked with many small, medium and large businesses in various capacities and have a pretty good idea how different businesses work and the sort of challenges different business sizes and types face. But even with all that experience I had never actually ran my own business (unless you count flogging my paintings to passers when I was 6.) Now that I do run my own business I realise even more that there’s nothing like experiencing things for yourself to be able to empathise more with the businesses you are working with.
