What do you mean I have to provide the website content?

A new business website is often simply the design and structure and not the actual copy (text content) which needs to be provided by the business owner.

I’ve got a business blog. What now?

You were asked if you had a business blog. They said it was good for SEO. So you start to look into it and someone else tells you a blog is like an online diary. Women share recipes, Alan Titchmarsh writes about gardening, journalists write news stories, fashion writers talk about what Kate Middleton is wearing and Internet marketers write about Google. Scared and confused you start thinking what the heck you would find to write about.

Google (not so) Instant in the UK

Google Instant, another ‘useful’ search function has been launched to users in the US. As usual us UK marketing people see a multitude of tweets from our US friends and wondering what the heck the issue is.

Telegraph Vs Smithy the Twittering Police Dog

I read a news story this morning on Telegraph.co.uk slamming a Twitter account that was set up by West Midlands police.  Why the criticism? Because the account is ‘run’ by a dog.

The Telegraph says:

Recent Changes to Facebook Business Pages

…and some actions you need to take.

Forget getting your knickers in a twist about Facebook making ‘fans’ to ‘likes’ because there are other changes which have taken place or are about to be rolled out which require actions.

Is Twitter ONLY a social tool?

There are lots of posts around telling you how you should be using Twitter and I don’t think many would disagree if I said Twitter was a social tool used by individuals and businesses to engage with friends, peers, customers and potential customers.

Google’s ‘Local Business Results’ is Changing

Like it or not, Google Local Business Results is making way for the new “Place Page” and from what I can see there is one change in particular that could make all the difference for websites that hold a local business result listing.

Launch of Manchester SEO

Looking at the SERPs today for ‘Manchester SEO’ and ‘SEO Manchester’ there are a number of results that link to actual websites of various consultants and agencies. There are also several results that link to rubbish. We can see one page sites which were thrown up without much love and attention with the purpose of assisting ranks for a vanity term. And there are neglected blogs where perhaps the owner now works for a larger agency and no longer has the time to maintain it.

Like many SEO’s I buy the odd domain to test certain theories or prove a point. Back in 2009 I registered such a domain which has now served it’s purpose. So rather than taking it down, redirecting it or leaving it to fester and pollute the SERPs with yet another spammy SEO website I would try and make it into something useful. So I recently relaunched it as a website that offers more visibility to existing Manchester SEO Providers with the target market not being other SEO’s but actual clients.

Don’t be held to Ransom over your UK Domain name

ransom-noteOver the years I’ve heard from many business owners of their bad experiences online. From being sold a website that never happens (or isn’t what they expected) to being scared into buying multiple domain names that they don’t need. Another common horror story is when you request your registration company transfers your domain to another provider and you are informed you must pay quite a few £s for it to be released. Sound familiar?

Are businesses putting all eggs in the Facebook basket?

Facebook is becoming quite the phenomenon with more people using it to maintain their social networks. I realised recently that where I would have sent multiple texts to friends I will now instead send a message or post an update via facebook. Friends who don’t have a facebook account are an inconvenience and often get forgotten when arranging a social event. That is a sad but inevitable effect of todays technological developments on every day life. Join in or get left behind, right?
